‘INCREDIBLE’ Liverpool youngster is now PUSHING on Arne Slot’s first team door

Yet another promising Liverpool talent is pushing on the first team door after a brilliant start to the season. 

Very early into his reign at Liverpool, Arne Slot has been a lot more reticent in giving young players opportunities in the first team.

In comparison to Jurgen Klopp, the Dutchman seems to prefer less rotations and using his more senior players, even in cup games.

But that doesn’t mean that the door is completely closed.

Trey Nyoni has already shown this season that if you continue to perform well the chances will always be there to come into the first team.

And it’s not just Nyoni who is pushing on that first team door.

Trent Kone-Doherty pushing on Arne Slot’s first team door

One of those young players who has shown a lot of early promise this season is Trent Kone-Doherty.

The young Republic of Ireland youth international missed out on being involved in pre-season with Slot’s squad due to an injury he suffered towards the end of last season.

However, he has returned to feature for the club at academy level, recently making his first start following his injury against AC Milan in the UEFA Youth League.

Kone-Doherty was one of the brightest players for Liverpool in that game despite a 0-0 draw.

And on his second start of the season against Harrogate Town, Kone-Doherty was again one of the best on the pitch, providing the assist for Liverpool’s equaliser and being a constant nuisance for the opposition.

At this rate, if he continues to catch the eye, he won’t be far away from pushing on the door of Slot’s first team squad.

How Kone-Doherty is ‘incredible’

He has been earmarked as a player with huge potential and the club’s coaching staff have high hopes for his future.

Previously, his former Derry City U19s manager Gerard Boyle described him as someone with ‘incredible pace’ to the Liverpool ECHO.

“Trent always possessed excellent close control and could manipulate the ball very well with both feet,” said the coach.

“He had incredible acceleration and deceleration. Trent enjoyed running at defenders with the ball and could glide by them before delivering a good pass or shooting.

“His attitude was first class, so well-mannered and so receptive to receiving information and advice. He was liked by all his teammates. He never stopped smiling.”
