RB Salzburg fans DEMAND never-before-seen action to halt Pep Lijnders crisis
RB Salzburg fans have demanded a never-before-seen action from the club after a disastrous period of form under former Liverpool man Pep Lijnders.
Things haven’t gone smoothly for Pep Lijnders this season. The Dutchman took over at RB Salzburg in the summer after the Red Bull club failed to win the Austrian Bundesliga for the first time in a decade.
It looked bright at first. In came Bobby Clark from Liverpool, with Stefan Bajcetic joining on loan. Salzburg then qualified for the UEFA Champions League phase.

And then it fell apart. Massively.
It’s all turning into a nightmare, with back-to-back defeats to start that UCL League phase – including a 4-0 reverse against Sparta Prague – and Salzburg’s most recent fixture saw them lose 5-0 to Sturm Graz. Lijnders is now facing internal inquests, with his own players reportedly questioning why two kids from Liverpool are starting games.
The arrival of Jurgen Klopp into the Red Bull framework certainly gives Lijnders an ally but that might not be enough. He’ll face further questions from all corners soon, too, with Salzburg fans holding a meeting with players.
RB Salzburg fans to meet with players
Salzburger Nachrichten reports that fan groups will meet with Salzburg’s lead players soon. That’s not unheard of, and is something that happens from time to time, but making this unusual is that the entire player leadership group at the club will be there.
That’s never happened before and highlights just how bad things have become in Salzburg. They’re essentially falling off a cliff and it’ll be interesting to hear just what comes of this meeting.
If Lijnders doesn’t have the players’ loyalty, there’s every chance they throw him under the bus. After all, there are already rumblings that certain stars disagree with his ideas.
It’s all coming to a head, in other words. Lijnders needs to turn things around immediately or it’s difficult to see this carrying on for much longer.
