‘Very intelligent’ new Liverpool signing scores INCREDIBLE goal on FULL debut
A ‘very intelligent’ summer signing has scored their first Liverpool goal during their full debut – and it was a spectacular effort.
Swedish forward Cornelia Kapocs was brought into Matt Beard’s starting line-up as Liverpool travelled to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Women’s Super League, and duly scored a ‘genius’ opening goal of the encounter.
Seizing upon an errant pass from the Spurs’ keeper, Kapocs took a few touches before lifting the ball into the back of the net from a considerable way out.
The stunning opener from Kapocs was just the start of a topsy-turvy afternoon for Liverpool, who twice conceded equalisers to Tottenham before a penalty at the death saw the Reds run out 3-2 winners, their first victory of the season.
Kapocs signed for Liverpool this summer after an impressive season in her native Sweden, helping her former side Linkoping qualify for Champions League football.
The 24-year-old Kapocs was the Reds’ second of three summer signings, and has introduced herself in the best way possible with this goal.

Speaking upon the completion of her signing to Liverpool’s official website, Kapocs said “I’m very happy and very proud to be here, […] I like the way the team plays and I also feel that I can grow and develop here as a player and as a person, so this is the right place to take the next step in my career.”
Likewise, manager Beard was similarly effusive in his praise, saying: “I’m really excited to bring Cornelia in. She is very different to what we’ve got up front – she can play wide and can play down the middle.”
“Her goalscoring record is fantastic, she got 18 goals last season, her movement is great and she’s a very intelligent player. So I think the fans can be excited at what she can bring to the table and we are excited to have her here.”
Liverpool currently sit in 5th place in the WSL table after three games played.

My days are a mix of passion and professionalism as I weave words for the love of the game. University of Arizona’s where I honed my skills, but the real education came from the hours spent in local cafes, my eyes glued to my laptop, and my mind playing the field.
Soccer’s not just my beat—it’s the rhythm to my life. I analyze plays with a tactical mind and share insights that cut through the noise. Outside work, my appetite for adventure is as strong as a striker’s kick. The chef in me loves experimenting in the kitchen, and when the hiking trails call my name, I answer with boots laced tight. I’ve got music in my bones, and you’ll often find me lost in the melodies of a well-strummed guitar.
Away from the adrenaline of sports and the hum of daily life, my world orbits around my family. Dinner tables are our huddles, where laughter and stories bounce around like a well-played ball. Weekends are sacred—reserved for family bike rides and movie marathons, where I pass down my love for classics to my two bright kids. Parenthood’s more rewarding than any byline, and it’s taught me the true value of teamwork. My wife is my rock, my steady defender, offering unwavering support through every deadline and draft. Together, we’ve built a life that’s as dynamic as the games I cover—a blend of commitment, joy, and the unending chase of a story worth telling.
