Arteta has ‘no preference’ on Liverpool-Man City result
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says he has no preference on who wins Sunday’s showdown between Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
Arsenal currently sit in third in the table but can move top of the Premier League with a win against Brentford on Saturday evening. The current top two then meet on Sunday at Anfield, in a fixture which could have huge consequences for the destination of the title.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of this weekend’s games, Arteta said his side are only focused on themselves and that he has no preference for who comes out on top between the club’s title rivals.
“That’s the only thing we can control. Perform well and play better than them,” Arteta said on the title race.
“If we do that on Sunday it’s a beautiful game to watch for any football supporter and I’ll certainly be watching it.
“I can’t control it (the result). I will enjoy a magnificent game of football with two of the best teams in Europe in the last decade and let’s see what that brings. The focus is on us and Brentford.
“Privately and publicly I have no preference because it’s nothing to do with me.”
Arsenal have found real form in the title race to win seven consecutive league games in 2024. The Gunners have scored 21 goals in their last four fixtures, conceding just once, and Arteta has been delighted with his team’s performances at both end of the pitch.
“Yeah it’s great because it shows obviously the quality and consistency that the team is showing. Then the way we have scored those goals as well. Not only the manner but the personnel. It’s great to see as well with the fact that we are conceding very little. Those two together are great because we want to get consistency and we want to get results and we want more.”
