Football is waking up to Ryan Gravenberch with DOUBLE award nods

Breakout star of Liverpool’s season so far Ryan Gravenberch could find himself a double award-winner thanks to his great Reds performances. 

Thanks to Gravenberch’s reinvention as a holding midfielder under Arne Slot, plaudits have been rained upon the 22-year-old Dutchman from a whole host of pundits, journalists and fans of the Reds and rivals alike.

Now the accolades are starting to come in to back up all of the kind words, with Gravenberch winning Liverpool’s Player of the Month award for September. Speaking to the club’s official, website, he said: “If you win the Player of the Month it’s really nice. It’s also my first one, so I’m a little bit proud as well. 

“Obviously we have a really good team, really good players. Luis [Diaz] had four goals in September, so I think it’s hard to choose between me and him, but I want to thank the fans that they chose me.” Gravenberch said.

It’s not just in-house awards, either. He has also been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award (also alongside Diaz), and he is sure to earn plenty of votes even in a league-wide competition for recognition.

Gravenberch up for double awards

Pleasingly, it’s quite possible that thanks to the incredible rebirth of Gravenberch since the 2024/25 season began the Reds won’t have to dip into the transfer market for a world-class midfielder in January, which could be a real boost given how much of the summer was spent chasing Martin Zubimendi to the detriment of other targets.

Either way, Gravenberch has been deserving of such accolades and it would be fair to liken him to a new signing given the lack of football he saw for the most part during his first season, with Liverpool and Slot now reaping the rewards a year on from his transfer.
